AKFA Aluminium Plans Inaugural International Bond Issuance to Expand Capital Strategy
Uzbek aluminium producer AKFA Aluminium explores first-ever bond offering with major global banks, signaling strategic growth and enhanced corporate governance.

AKFA Aluminium Group, one of Uzbekistan’s largest private enterprises in the aluminium and plastics manufacturing sector, is considering issuing its inaugural international bonds. This move represents a significant shift in the company’s capital strategy as it seeks to broaden its investor base and enhance corporate transparency.
Strategic Shift Towards International Capital Markets
According to financial news reports, AKFA Aluminium has engaged global investment banks Citigroup and JPMorgan to organize investor roadshows in London, scheduled for July 13. These meetings, planned as a two-day event, aim to introduce the company’s bond issuance opportunity to international investors.
While the discussions are still at an early stage and no immediate bond placement is planned, the initiation of these talks demonstrates AKFA Aluminium’s intent to diversify financing sources beyond traditional equity offerings. The company disclosed on May 8 its decision to proceed with an initial public offering (IPO), marking an important milestone in its evolution as a shareholder company dedicated to improving corporate governance, enhancing transparency, and formalizing disclosure practices.
"This decision marks a critical phase in AKFA Aluminium’s development as a shareholder company focused on corporate transparency and governance," a company statement noted.
Established in 2000 by entrepreneur and former Tashkent mayor Jahongir Ortiqxo‘jayev, AKFA Aluminium exports its aluminium and plastic products to over 30 countries. The company holds a credit rating of B+ from S&P Global Ratings, which has remained stable over the last two years.
Ownership Structure and Financial Performance
AKFA Aluminium's authorized capital amounts to approximately 664.8 billion Uzbek soms, with ownership evenly split between Jahongir Ortiqxo‘jayev and Nigoraxon Ortiqxo‘jayev. Operational leadership is provided by CEO Bahodir Abdullayev.
Recent financial data indicate the company generated revenues of 31.23 billion soms in 2025. However, related entities within the group present a mixed financial picture. For instance, the National Investment Fund recently divested 31% of its shares via an IPO, raising close to $603.6 million, but simultaneously reported a net loss of 417.4 billion soms in the first quarter of 2026.
Farrukh Khodjaev, head of KAP DEPO, commented on these results, emphasizing the importance of interpreting the financial outcomes correctly to avoid misjudgments by investors. He explained that the substantial reported loss largely stems from asset revaluation and portfolio exchange operations, which represent non-cash accounting adjustments rather than operational cash outflows.
"The critical task for the market is to correctly interpret the financial statements and not confuse changes in asset valuations with operational problems," Khodjaev said.
This nuanced understanding is particularly relevant as AKFA Aluminium positions itself for international bond markets, where transparency and credible financial reporting are critical to attracting global investors.
Implications for Corporate Governance and Market Positioning
AKFA Aluminium’s tentative bond issuance and IPO decision highlight a corporate strategy focused on strengthening governance frameworks and increasing investor confidence. By adopting international capital market mechanisms and engaging top-tier global banks, the company signals a commitment to aligning with best practices in corporate transparency and financial disclosure.
For U.S. and global investors, AKFA Aluminium's steps to access international debt markets present a unique opportunity to participate in the growth of a major Central Asian industrial player. The company’s strategic moves also underscore the broader trend of emerging market firms leveraging international capital resources to support expansion and operational refinement.
