Russian law enforcement conducted a large-scale raid on an informal music festival in the forest near Vyborg, close to the Finnish border. Approximately 100 people were detained during the operation, which targeted alleged performances of pro-Ukraine songs and calls for regime change in Russia.
Security Operation and Allegations
The raid involved police and special forces who completely cordoned off the wooded area hosting the event. State media reported that the festival was considered "left-radical," and participants were accused of spreading messages supportive of Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict. Authorities also cited the widespread use of narcotics at the festival as a justification for the intervention.
At the makeshift stage, posters displaying Ukrainian symbols were reportedly displayed. Organizers and attendees had kept the festival location secret until about 24 hours before the event, a tactic reportedly used since the festival began in 2023. The event was previously known unofficially as "Unhealthy Lifestyle" (НОЖ).
"The crackdown reflects heightened state sensitivity to public gatherings perceived as politically dissenting," an analyst noted.
During the raid, participants—mainly young attendees—were detained with their faces pressed to the ground and hands behind their heads. Some were coerced on camera into admitting drug use. Drones brought by attendees for filming were confiscated. Legal authorities are currently considering initiating criminal proceedings against the detainees.
